FAFSA/Bright Futures

Many of you in the Class of 2020 have concerns about the FL Bright Futures scholarship because the deadline to have all the requirements to qualify is June 30th. Students may not be able to complete the SAT or ACT in time and complete their volunteer hours.

The Bright Futures program must adhere to state statutes. The Office of Student Financial Assistance has requested extensions from the Florida Legislature, and are awaiting a response. After the decision has been made, they will post on their website. If further assistance is needed, please call OSFA Customer Service at 888-827-2004.

The Florida Legislature has passed a bill that will result in higher required test scores for Bright Futures college scholarships for students who graduate in 2021 and beyond. Click here for details regarding the changes.

Just a reminder that to obtain the Bright Futures Academic Scholarship this year students need a 1290 SAT or 29 ACT score and 100 Community service hours. Students need a 1170 SAT or 26 ACT score with 75 community service hours to obtain the Bright Futures Medallion Scholarship.

Billions of dollars. 20 school districts. One national champion.

Seniors: Did you know that billions of $$ in federal college aid are left on the table each year when students fail to complete the FAFSA? That’s why we're running a #FAFSAFastBreak to get more WOHS students to fill out the form. Click here to check it out!

Although it is not a requirement to graduate, community service hours are required for the Bright Futures Scholarship (100 hours are required for the highest Bright Futures scholarship level) and are a positive addition to college applications. Students will find volunteer opportunities with many clubs and organizations at school, so check out Club Rush in the Cafeteria during Warrior Welcome. Click here for the guidelines and forms.
