About Us


The name of the organization shall be the West Orange High School  PTSO, Inc. The PTSO is located at West Orange High School 1625 S. Beulah Rd. Winter Garden, Florida 34787.

The PTSO is a non-profit organization that exists for charitable and educational purposes, including the making of distributions to West Orange High School and organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and serve the mission of West Orange High School PTSO..

The corporation is organized for the purpose of enhancing the educational experience of students at West Orange High School by fostering relationships among the school community, parents, teachers and students through volunteer and financial support.

We are the West Orange High School Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO)

Our mission is to enhance the educational experience of students at West Orange High School by fostering relationships among the school community, parents, teachers and students through volunteer and financial support.

 Committees

 Academic Rewards

This committee provides volunteers and assistance to school administration for Academic Rewards.  Events may include popsicle handouts for honor roll and various other events as needed.

 

Beautification

 This committee consists of interested parents, students and community businesses who will join us in our Beautification Days and School Beautification projects. Some projects may be landscaping, clean-up, painting, etc.

  

College and Career Center (CCC)

The College and Career Center, also known as the CCC, is located near the Auditorium in Room 839. The CCC is a resource and support center for students that helps to guide them towards their destination after high school.  This committee assists the WOHS College and Career Specialist in hosting events, college visits, etc.

 

Communications: Newsletter

 This committee gathers information and publishes the weekly PTSO newsletter. Responsibilities include: attending PTSO board meetings; soliciting copy and setting submission deadlines; desktop publishing and editing; providing proofs to PTSO president and those designated for weekly review and approval.

 

Communications: Social Media

This committee gathers information and shares on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Information can be obtained from the newsletter, other social media, MaxPreps and WOHS sports teams and clubs. Responsibilities include: attending PTSO board meetings and updating social media. 

  

Events

This committee involves organizing the volunteers and coordinating the PTSO presence at certain event - these one-off opportunities are a discrete commitment and don’t last all year such as Warrior Welcome, Curriculum Night, Incoming Freshman Night, Baccalaureate,  etc.

 Hospitality

This committee organizes the donation of food and drinks for many PTSO events. Responsibilities include: coordinating donations of food and drinks; setting up and decorations for designated events; and organizing volunteers to help setup, serve and cleanup. Events include: Welcome Back Teacher Breakfast, Thanksgiving, Holidays, Teacher Appreciation, etc.

 

 Membership

This committee runs the PTSO membership drive each year.  Responsibilities include: designing a membership form for Warrior Welcome; attending Welcome Back Teacher breakfast to sign up faculty; coordinating staffing of Membership table at Warrior Welcome; recruiting new members; coordinating a class membership drive competition; tracking membership numbers; maintaining an accurate accounting of membership fees collected.

  

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is composed of at least three (3) current board members. The Nominating Committee nominates at least one person for each committee and office to be filled for the upcoming school year and reports its nominees at the Election Meeting. Coordinates PTSO open house meeting usually in February with nominations presented at March PTSO meeting.

 

Public Relations

This committee promotes school activities to local newspapers. Responsibilities include coordinating with West Orange High School administration and PTSO board to showcase recent school events; obtaining photographs and necessary descriptive information; and ensuring all photos and materials submitted do not include students whose parents have opted out.

 Seniors

This committee coordinates and provides support to the WOHS Senior Sponsors and includes events such as tailgates, handprints, lunch in the loop, distribution of cap and gowns, senior yard signs, field day, senior transcripts, etc.

Spirit Wear

 This committee designs and sells the West Orange High School spirit t-shirt each year. Responsibilities include designing the t-shirt graphic; working with production company to have shirts made; selling t-shirts at Meet the Teacher and Open House; processing t-shirt orders from membership forms; maintaining an accurate accounting; and approving production company invoices.

 Volunteer Coordination

This committee is responsible for overseeing the ADDitions Volunteer program at West Orange High School. Responsibilities include receiving training from Orange County on the ADDitions volunteer hours tracking program, organizing volunteer orientation and homeroom parent training, coordinating with both school and PTSO to schedule volunteers for events and activities, planning the end-of-year volunteer recognition breakfast and providing an accounting of total volunteer hours worked.

Website

This committee oversees the PTSO website.  Responsibilities include maintaining the PTSO website; managing the members’ access privileges; uploading new event info into the calendar; updating and adding pages for special events and answering email sent to the web admin address.

Executive Board

The Executive Board develops West Orange High School PTSO’s annual budget, establish and oversee committees to conduct the work of West Orange High School PTSO, sets a regular monthly meeting schedule, establishes fundraising programs, approves by majority vote unbudgeted expenditures of no more than $100, and transact emergency business in the interval between PTSO Board meetings.

 President

Presides at West Orange High School PTSO meetings, Executive Board meetings, and PTSO Board meetings; serve as the official representative of West Orange High School PTSO, and retains all official records of West Orange High School PTSO.

 1st Vice President

 Oversee the committee system of West Orange High School PTSO, assist the President and chair meetings in the absence of the President

 2nd Vice President

 Oversee the committee system of West Orange High School PTSO, assist the President and chair meetings in the absence of the President

Treasurer

Has custody of all of the funds of West Orange High School PTSO; keep a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures; and make disbursements in accordance with the approved budget, as authorized by the West Orange High School PTSO Board or Executive Board. The Treasurer is responsible for the maintenance of such books of the account and records. The Treasurer shall present the budget and a full financial status report at the first General PTSO meeting each school year, provide financial updates at each of the monthly PTSO Board meetings and compile an Annual Report at the end is each year.

Secretary

Record the minutes of all meetings of West Orange High School PTSO, the Executive Board, or the PTSO; prepare all written communications as directed by West Orange High School PTSO, the Executive Board, or the PTSO Board; and perform such other duties as may be delegated.
